Who we are

Humanitarian Efforts for the Learning of the Girl Child in Africa (HELGA), was founded by Mrs. Priscilla N. Nangurai (OGW) and Solomon Tawuo as a Self-help group in 2002 working to address the girl child education issues in the Maasai community and more so in Kajiado County. To make an impactful service it was on 18th August 2020 registered as a Community-Based Organization (Reg. No. KJD/CD02/03129), under the Ministry of Gender, Social Services, Culture, Tourism and Wildlife in the County Government of Kajiado Our offices are located at our Girl Rescue Centre and Primary School (Nanana WinBridge Education Centre), Naikarra Village, Ildamat Ward, Kajiado Central Sub County of Kajiado County, KENYA under the guidance of Mrs. Nangurai as the Executive Director.

We envision a Kenya where access to a high-quality education is the norm for all children and where women and young people are empowered and then engaged to lead change in their local communities.

Driven by a Vision

Ms. Nangurai's lifelong commitment to girls' education began in 1986 when she witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of harmful traditional practices on young girls, while she was heading AIC Girls Primary Boarding School in Kajiado. Witnessing girls pulled out of school due to exploitation and societal pressures fueled her determination to create change. HELGA's formation in 2002 as a self-help group with friends became the culmination of her vision – a future where girls are empowered through education and women have the tools to build a better life for themselves and their families. HELGA works in Kajiado County in Kenya but has girls also from other counties in Kenya in her programs. The main beneficiaries are women and girl children. We know that by empowering them it will lead to improved livelihoods. .
